Rode 110 miles from Shelby to Havre. I had a little rain but not too bad. Day started out nice and then got very cold and windy. Wind was a cross wind to start with for a few hours and then became a quartering tail wind. What a blessing that was. About 60 miles with a quartering tail wind. I rode between 10 mph to 16 mph on most of the flats and hills. Saved me a couple of hours time today. I got on the major highway about 8 AM and rode 110 miles by about 6:30 PM. I stopped at a cafe in some small town and a Canadian by the name of Kimble Mooney and his nice wife talked to me and gave me some vitamins and nutritional supplements to help me along. Very nice people. The vitamins seem to help my throat feel better.
I got to Havre and found the church for tomorrow and then went and found the fairgrounds and set up my tent there. They have a shower and bathroom at the fairgrounds. The water in the shower was almost warm. I pitched my tent under the lean-to of the 4H building to keep my bike panniers dry. It rained a little on Sat. night.
I am hanging in there. Someone can tell Al Hoover that I did get past Washington and Idaho too. Montana will take me awhile, but I will get past Montana someday also. Later, Dan
Went to church on Sunday. About 4 miles or so to church. Very nice people there too. Every time I go to church in another town they seem to treat me well and it is kind of like having a family away from home. They have a Potluck Dinner after church on the 3rd Sunday and I happened to hit it just right so I got a Great Meal after church from the folks in Havre.
I can't find any electricity near my tent so I am sitting in the bathroom charging my camera, phone and computer and writing this email. I have a chair but I can think of places I would rather sit and write emails.
I have been singing to myself as I ride along the dark and dusty trail and hardly anyone complains to me at all. My other two personalities sometimes gripe a little, but they will get used to it eventually. When I am in a car and sing my fine songs, everyone complains - so I guess a big benefit of riding my bike across the country is no one cares if I sing. How wonderful is that?
I am still pretty sore, tired, and my nose still runs all day long, but I am feeling a little better. My rear end was to sore the first 2 weeks I could hardly stand it and now it is just a steady painful throbbing feeling all day long when I ride. It feels much better. It seems to be getting a little tougher as I go. My legs are still sore but I assume they will get used to this someday. I mean really, what is the big deal? A few miles here and a few miles there and they complain. What a couple of whiners.
