Minnesota: Nice Smooth Bike Trail

Aug 27 Barnsville, MN to Alexandria, MN ( 81 miles) Today was a reasonably good day. Got a great breakfast at the Messer’s home and Chris Messer and the girls Megan and Savannah and the boy Jenson rode with me to highway 52 to see me off.
I rode to Fergus Falls and ate lunch and then got on a nice bike trail and rode to Alexandria. The wind was in my face all day but it was just gentle breeze and was not too bad. I was averaging 9 to 11 mph most of the day. It rained on me a little this afternoon but not too bad. The bike trail was great. Real smooth, no cars, trucks, or hardly any other bikes or walkers. It is a really nice trail built on the old railroad tracks. I will be able to ride on it tomorrow for another 50 miles or so till I get to St. Joseph then I will have to battle the highways again.
Minnesota is very beautiful. The scenery is slowly changing. Still a lots of farmland but the terrain is becoming more rolling hills and the trees are becoming more common and thicker. There also seems to be more water as I go east.
I met a nice policeman in Fergus Falls named Andrew Olson and he showed me how to get on the bike trail. He and his wife are going to go to Washington this September and ride about 1000 miles through Ranier and Olympia Parks.
I saw a nice live frog today. That is better than dead frogs. My rear end is really sore today. You would think I would be used to this by now, but I guess this bike riding stuff is just a pain in the rear.
Later, Dan
