August 5, 2009

Lori: Well, it's late, but I've been working on canning corn. Daniel called with a short update to send to all of you so here it is. Sunday and Monday he rested and tried to get better in a Hotel, so he didn't travel until Tuesday. Tuesday he went from Omak to Republic, WA, which is 64 miles mostly uphill. Waucanda Pass was about 4500 feet above sea level. When he got to Republic, I had spoken with Duane and Emily Vickery earlier and she said that her sister and brother-in-law live in Republic, so she made arrangements for Daniel to spend the evening there. They fed him, let him shower and he set up camp there, so he was very grateful for the hospitality. It's nice to know people have relatives all over. Wednesday, which is today, he biked from Republic to Tiger, a distance of 90 miles. He went over Sherman Pass which is about 5500 feet. He is pooped!! He is aiming to get into Sandpoint, Idaho tomorrow which is approximately 77 miles to travel. From what the weatherman is predicting, he'll have cooler weather, but may get wet or have to dodge a few thunder showers. Oh well, he has always enjoyed watching lightning, so he'll probably see it close up. He'll send photos and more details whenever he can get to the internet again. Until next time..... Lori (looking forward to cooler weather)
