Day Six - 34 MPH, Woo Hoo!!

Hello Everyone! Yesterday came and went with no word from Daniel, but today he called and I couldn't hear a word he said although he said I sounded clear on his end. He kept going until he could get reception and this is what he had to say: Yesterday he went about 15 hours traveling until he reached 62 miles, but 36 of those miles was uphill climbing the mountain at maybe 4 miles per hour. He went through Rainy Pass and Washington Pass. He wrecked his bike again, because he couldn't get his foot out of the clip soon enough when he was going so slow uphill. The good news is on the way down the mountain he got to travel about 30 miles coasting downhill at probably 34 miles per hour. YAY! He loved that part. He called me at 3 pm and was headed out again, but the heat in Winthrop is horrible! He said Winthrop looks alot like Boise. He saw deer everywhere on his way down and a fawn actually ran along side of him for about 25 yards. He fixed his bike - a tune up - and is now headed to Okanogan. He plans on going to church and resting in a hotel on Sundays, so I am sure it'll be a much needed rest as he is still sick. Daniel reminded me that he misses me, but this is just his "walk about". I think rather than taking meds or herbs for menopause like women, men just find some other way of dealing with "their" changes. Surely they must have some too - at least Daniel seems to. Well, that's it for now. Other than him sending 3 packages home with gear to get rid of and another on the way by Monday. He will be lighter by far with all of the stuff he sent. He'll probably be writing tomorrow with more photos. For all of you wondering, he is sticking to a very northern route so that getting to Maine won't be so hard. It looks like from the map that in another 200 to 250 miles he'll be headed into Idaho for Sandpoint. Until next time..... Lori
